Type of record:Find Spot
Name:Possible Roman settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

Systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting between 2003 and 2009 recovered more than 750 Roman pottery sherds in this field, suggesting it was potentially the site of some form of Roman settlement. A number of Roman metal objects were also recovered including two coins, a seal box, brooches, lead steelyard weights, a terret and a key handle.
A range of other finds were also recovered including Mesolithic, Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age and undatable Late Prehistoric worked flints; Iron Age, Iron Age/Early Saxon, Early Saxon, Early-Middle Saxon, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; a possible Early Saxon loom weight; a post-medieval jetton; undatable copper alloy and iron metal-working debris and fired clay fragment and Late Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include Late Saxon/medieval folding balance fragments; a ?medieval copper alloy ring; a medieval/post-medieval Jew's harp, copper alloy vessel fragments and lead weight and a post-medieval spur.
