Name:Possible site of medieval well and Bronze Age ceramic vessel, Wereham Green

Summary

At sometime prior to 1892 a Bronze Age pottery vessel was recovered from Wereham Green. Additional research also shows that during the medieval period the Green had a medieval well, and later in 1849 Abraham Sewell built a spring here.

Full description

Pre 1892. On Wereham Green.
Handled food vessel 10.2cm (4in) high. Decorated with two lines of bird-bone impressions below rim.
Held by Cambridge Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography. (Wakes Green bequest).

Location of the Green noted by E. Rose (NAU) 25 May 1977. It is small enough to give an eight-figure reference.

By coincidence this is also the site of St Margarets Well (Ordnance Survey 25in).

Reference (S4) in file notes a monument over a spring somewhere near this site built by Abraham Sewell in 1849.
