Full description

May 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The northernmost feature is a single, relatively narrow, linear parchmark (TF 8869 4200 to TF 8875 4217) aligned in an approximate north to south direction and with a length of 180m (S1). To the south is a stretch of slightly wider bank, running in a north-west to south-east direction (TF 8860 4185 to TF 8867 4176), and with a length of 120m. To the south of this feature is a stretch of bank aligned in an approximate north to south direction (TF 8858 4174 to TF 8859 4163), with a length 110m.
Either of the southern features could be a section of the road depicted on Clerks map of 1590 (S2), labelled as 'Cheeles' or 'Cheetes Gate Waye', and ultimately becoming the road to Egmore. Equally they could represent the ploughed out remains of embanked boundary features. The northern feature is probably a land boundary, of unknown but possibly medieval date.
M. Brennand (NMP), 21 May 2002.
