Full description

March 2002. Test Pit.
Near churchyard extension.
Trench 45cm by 1.2m (1 foot 6 inches by 4 feet), 1.83m (6 feet) deep. Soil down to 1.37m (4 feet 6 inches) then sand, with water at about 1.83m (6 feet).
Roman tile fragment (39mm deep) reduced with oxidised surfaces. Also nails (not seen) and modern gutter bracket 15cm (6 inches) above sand.
