Full description
March/ April 1999. Metal detecting.
Sprinkling of post medieval metal finds not recorded.
Rim sherd medieval unglazed jar (Identified by A. Rogerson (NLA)).
Very worn corroded Early Saxon cruciform brooch. Only the central panel survives on the head; on the reverse is a single pin bar lug with remains on iron bar and spring. The bow is flat, top and bottom, and is keeled centrally. There is a groove on the lower flat part. The leg has a facetted part and a catchplate on the reverse. The horse's head terminal, now very worn and indistinct, looks narrow and simple. Almost all the surface has disappeared so nothing can be said of engraved or punched decoration. 5th century/6th century.
See (S1).
Identified by H. M. Geake (A&E)
