Extensive metal-detecting and fieldwalking between 1998 and 2018 recovered prehistoric worked flint including Mesolithic retouched blades and a Neolithic scraper; Roman, Late Saxon/medieval, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins and undatable, Iron Age to Early Saxon and Late Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include undatable metal working debris, weights, a fishing weight and a copper alloy ring; an Iron Age terret; a Roman bird figurine, brooch, toilet spoon, knife or key terminal, spindle whorl, rivet, nail and a knife end-cap; an Early Saxon brooch and hanging bowl escutcheon; a Late Saxon brooch and stirrup strap mount; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval macehead, Papal bulla, spur fragment, copper alloy vessel fragments and harness mounts and pendants; a medieval/post-medieval purse bar, skillet handle and ?stud or ?mount and a post-medieval coin weight, crotal bell, Jew's harp, spur fragment, purse bar and probable balance arm fragment.
The large quantities of Roman pottery fragments and metal finds indicated that this was a settlement site during this period.
