Summary

Metal-detecting between 1997 and 1999 recovered a Mesolithic or later quartzite pebble mace/hammer; medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval jettons; a post-medieval token; an extremely important Iron Age copper alloy toggle and a range of other Late Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Late Saxon strap end and disc brooch; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval coin weight, ?trade weight, harness bell and copper alloy cooking vessel fragment; a medieval/post-medieval coin weight and copper alloy vessel fragments; post-medieval ?sword hanger, book clasp and tap handle and undatable lead weights.

1997. Metal-detecting.
Area searched by group of American metal detectorists on Discovery Tours holiday organised by member of the public. [1]. Field 20.
Late Saxon strap end.
Medieval and post medieval coins and metal work.

January 1998. Fieldwalking.
Fieldwalking around edge of marlpit at [2]:
1 Mesolithic or later incomplete quartzite pebble mace (two-thirds). See drawing (S1).
Identified by P. Robins (NCM), see description in file. This discovery was reported in (S2).

1998. Excavation.
Investigation of "pot boiler site" at [4]. This had apparently been revealed by a pipe trench.
No other details known, although photographs were apparently seen by the Norwich Castle Museum [5].
