Full description

Farmhouse is listed in (S1) as two piles; front pile about 1840 red brick with Doric porch at centre; rear pile 16th/17th century, refaced 19th century, flint and brick; ground floor has spine beam and roll moulded bressumer, both unstopped.
House not seen but outbuildings inspected. By house gate is a farm building of red brick with blocked round headed openings, 18th/19th century, but with patches of flint with older brick details about 1600. To northwest is a large barn, originally of English bond brickwork, chequered bricks with diagonal skintlings (pre about 1780). Central cart doors. Rectangular honeycomb vents. North end east wall refaced in flint; west cart porch and attached pentise added, also in flint. Pentise has stone block (where from?) inscribed I O 1799, the I is serif. Roof with dentilled cornice seems to be a 19th century alteration.
E. Rose (NLA) 6 November 1997.
