Summary

Sporadic metal-detecting between 1996 and 2019 and a watching brief in 2009 recovered a number of prehistoric flint flakes and a retouched flake; Roman, medieval, and post-medieval coins; a post-medieval jetton and Roman, Early Saxon and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Roman plate brooch with the remains of colourful enamelling over the entire surface; a Roman/medieval copper alloy vessel fragment; an Early Saxon small-long brooch; medieval and medieval/post-medieval buckles; a medieval pot mend and strap fitting; a medieval/post-medieval button and a post-medieval cloth seal and copper alloy handle from an unidentified tool or implement.

Full description

1996. Metal detecting.
Roman plate brooch of 'composite' type - open circle joined to solid triangle. Circle has seven external projections. Remains of colourful enamelling over entire surface. Remains of hinged pin lug and catch plate on back. 2nd century.

A number of prehistoric flakes and a retouched flake were recovered along with metal objects dating to the Roman, medieval and post-medieval periods.
