Summary

This is the site of a pottery kiln and brickworks marked on a map of 1826. It is thought that this kiln ceased commercial activity in the late 19th or early 20th century, although pottery production on a small scale continued longer. The drying shed was standing in 1975.

'Pottery and brickworks marked on 1836 one inch Ordnance Survey map (S1).

1970.
Pottery taken from drying shed kiln site buldozed 1969/70.
Records of kiln structure in photos Peter Eden and David Yaxley.
Brick kiln - samples in Bridewell.
Last date in directories - working 1872 but Lord Hastings remembers pottery working as a hobby when he (Lord Hastings) was a child.
