Summary

Extensive metal-detecting between 1996 and 2011 recovered a prehistoric flint flake; Roman, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon and medieval pottery; medieval roof tile; Roman, Middle Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval tokens plus a post-medieval jetton and Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. Among Roman, Early to Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval brooches, dress accessories and other metalwork was a Bronze Age awl; Iron Age harness fitting; a Middle/Late Saxon hoard of lead vessels and an iron ploughshare and a very important example of an 9th century Carolingian strap distributer, which was probably imported.
