Summary

Metal detecting has recovered a large scatter of objects dating from the Roman to the post medieval period. These include Roman, medieval and post medieval coins, a medieval gilded buckle and plate, a medieval folding strap clasp and a medieval furniture or casket mount.

Medieval gilded buckle and plate, very sturdy buckle with moulded cylindrical pin-rest.
18th century shoe buckle with knob on plate for attachment.

One medieval coin, one medieval/post medieval bronze and one post medieval bronze coin.

Medieval folding strap clasp, complete with clasp. The tapering plate has frame recesses and complicated decoration; three engraved circles ar each filled with five punched dots, and there are two groups of three dots between each circle. A copper alloy rivet cuts through the decoration at the open end. The frame is rectangular, with a separate copper alloy bar across the end which caries the folding end. This is a sheet of copper alloy wrapped around. The bar and decorated with three engraved saltires in squares. Across the wrapped end are transverse grooves. There is no bar-mount on the folding end. 13th to 15th century. (0326 8608).
