Summary

Metal-detecting between 1993 and 2019 recovered a Neolithic part-polished adze fragment; Roman to post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman and medieval roof tile fragments; Roman tile fragments; Iron Age, Roman, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval to post-medieval jettons and tokens and Early/Middle Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include an Early/Middle Bronze Age axehead; Roman copper alloy beads, brooches, a nail cleaner, spindle whorl and copper alloy bracelet fragment; Early Saxon brooches, girdle hanger, sleeve clasp and mount; Middle Saxon pins, a strap-end with an animal head terminal, an imported lozenge-shaped brooch and frame from a hanging bowl escutcheon; a Middle/Late Saxon copper alloy pin; a Late Saxon bridle cheek piece with an animal head central boss and brooch; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories (including a medieval gilded belt fitting and silver belt mount); medieval rotary casket keys, a harness pendant, thimbles, lead seal matrix and copper alloy vessel fragment; medieval/post-medieval knife end-caps, a lead weight, sword belt mount, thimble, seal and seal matrix and post-medieval rowel spurs, a finger-ring, and harness mount.

1993. Metal detecting. North of school. [1].
Late Saxon bridle cheek piece, one terminal broken off. Central boss in form of animal head! Triangular terminal with three knobs.
13th century beautiful gilded bronze hinged belt fitting, figure of eight side attachment bars, each with a transverse pin, on which swings a suspension loop (broken) on one side, and a complete mount on the other. Below suspension loop is a lentoid plate with three projecting lobes on each side, ribbed borders and a central leaf-shape with a central hole. The plate terminates in a hook, with an animal head as its terminal, facing towards the suspension loop. Amazing amount of gilding left.
14th century lovely animal headed spout from bronze ewer.
