Type of record:Monument
Name:Roman settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

Extensive metal-detecting between 1991 and 2011 has recovered Prehistoric worked flints; Romano-British, Early Saxon, Middle Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery; Romano-British tile fragments; Roman, Iron Age, Middle Saxon and Late Saxon coins and Iron Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include Iron Age, Roman, Early Saxon and Middle Saxon brooches; an Iron Age tankard handle; a Roman penannular bracelet fragment; Middle Saxon strap fittings and pins, including one with an unusual cross-shaped head; Late Saxon strap fittings and medieval and medieval/post-medieval dress accessories. The quantity of Roman coins, pottery, tile and other finds suggest that this is the site of a Roman settlement.
