City ditch.
Evidence for ditch in existance by 1186 to 1210 AD from Grant to Reiner, son of Swein of the land of Swein had held at Heigham next Norwich for 8 pence yearly, 1186 to 1210.

'iace t inter mesuagium suam 't possatum Norwic'.

Evidence for 'new ditch' made by burghers between 1135 and 1155 to 1158 from 'another writ of Henry II concerning the manor of Heigham - next-Norwich 1155 to 1158 AD.

'Et prohibes ne in'uste perdat terram suam que est intra novum fossatum quod burgenses fecerunt post mortem regis H. Avi mei extra villam de Norwico'. (S1).
