Summary

Metal detecting and fieldwalking have recovered prehistoric, Roman, Saxon, medieval, post medieval and undated objects. They include prehistoric flint artefacts, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and medieval pottery, a Roman cosmetic mortar, a 10th century Borre style brooch and medieval coins.

Full description

September 1990. Metal detecting. Site 4. Field 30.
10th century Borre style brooch, bronze, catch plate on reverse on base of lug; quite good quality decoration.

Roman end-looped cosmetic mortar, shallow groove. Weight 17.23g.

Earlier 1998. Fieldwalking on growing crop. Site extended.
Eleven worked flints
One ?base East Anglian colour coated beaker, Roman.
One bowl rim, one jar rim, two bases, seven body sherds Roman greyware.
One1 body sherd soft oxidised exterior, reduced core, grog temper, Bronze Age.
Thirteen finely flint gritted, miscellaneous prehistoric/Iron Age.
One body sherd sand and sparse organic tempering, probably Early Saxon.
One body sherd Ipswich ware.
130 plus scraps medieval unglazed including early medieval jar rims and later medieval bowl/jar rims, and a rod handle from a jug.
Nineteen glazed Grimston.
Three fragments of lava quern.
Burnt flints.
