Summary
A map of 1733 at Wolterton Hall shows houses arranged around a green immediately north of the church. This shows that village was here rather than on the site of the hall. Wolterton village was mentioned in Domesday and the Nomina Villarum. It had ten taxpayers in 1329, 17 in 1332, and 37 in 1377. Fieldwalking and metal detecting here during 1990 and 1999 recovered Neolithic, Iron Age, Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery sherds along with medieval and post medieval metalwork and coins.

Map of 1733 at Wolterton Hall shows houses arranged around a green immediately north of the church, according to informant. This shows that village was here rather than on the site of the hall. Mentioned in Domesday and Nomina Villarum; ten taxpayers in 1329, 17 in 1332, 37 in 1377; field still open in 1638; park made 1725 (Information from Ordance Survey).
