Summary
World War Two coastal battery gun emplacements (see NHER 26938) are visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1944 and 1953. In 1988 one of the emplacements was uncovered during sewerage works, as were World War Two concrete bunkers and brick tunnels. One of the tunnels led to an observation tower (NHER 23514).

Full description
November 1988. 'At north end of Cliff Parade by the shelter nearest to the chapel ruins'.
Information from Anglian Water Authority staff. Correctly located by J. Wymer (NAU).
Gun emplacement with bunkers roofed in concrete and brick tunnels. Buried in cliff. Stated to have been used only twice about 1940. Discovered in digging sewer and left in position.

Source [1] states that machine guns and explosives were found in the tunnel to the coastguard tower (NHER 23514) when it was rediscovered.
