In 1985 the hilt and upper blade of a sword were found on flattened river dredgings at this location. These components were believed to be of Late Saxon date, with the break in the sword having occurred in antiquity.

Full description
1985. Found on flattened river dredgings beside the path on the north side of the River Ant near the junction with the Dilham and North Walsham Canal.
The hilt and upper blade of a sword, with an old break. Wheeler's Type 5. See for comparison Medieval Archaeology volume IX, 1965, plate IV a,b and plate VI b.
