Name:Medieval and post medieval object concentration, medieval pottery sherds

Summary

Fieldwalking in 1986 by the Fenland Survey recovered medieval pottery sherds from this field, particularly from the western half. A concentration of medieval pottery sherds, along with very sparse shell and bone fragments and some sparse to moderate post medieval material was also noted. Metal detecting in 2008-9 recovered a medieval coin, a late medieval purse bar,a medieval book or furniture fitting and a post- medieval crotal bell.

Full description

15 January 1986. Fenland fieldwalking in winter cereal with well weathered soil.
Context 1: general scatter of odd medieval sherds particularly west half field. WSG AJ (S1).
Context 2 at 5940 1355. Concentration moderate medieval pottery, very sparse shell and bone, sparse to moderate post medieval. Silt stained darker than normal. Set on remnants of old bank. 47m east to west x 45m north to south at 2.1m OD. WSG 1 (S2).
