Name:Roman bodkin and hair comb


At some time prior to 1760 the rector of Elveden (Suffolk) was in possession of part of a Roman lady's comb and bodkin for the hair. These items were supposedly found in the Thetford area.

Full description

'There is in the possession of the Rev. George Burton, rector of Elveden in Suffolk, part of a Roman lady's comb, found in the neighbourhood of Thetford and likewise an acus crinalis, or bodkin for the hair'.
N.B. not specifically stated that second object is from Thetford, but implied.
In (S1) (1781 - section perhaps by Rev. J. G. Burton but source not checked).
Quoted by R.R. Clarke (NCM) under Thetford Castle, but no separate card found.
