Summary
A group of earthworks has been interpreted as a possible house platform of medieval to post medieval date. They could be associated with buildings depicted here on historic maps. Their origin is uncertain, however, and they may equally represent (at least in part) a natural scarp or extractive activity. They are partially visible on aerial photographs.

Full description
Autumn 1982. On edge of shallow valley overlooking stream. Seen in pasture.
Small rectangular earthwork platform, possibly a house site.
A. Gregory (NAU), 11 March 1983.
1997. Platform, up to 1m high has straight western edge reaching road, but southern edge is irregular, and may be result of natural or extractive action.
Slight L shaped scarp in fragment of platform in east of field may represent part of the features of garden and cottage shown on (S1), 1829
Southern part of field had recently been enclosed; all known as Dix's Pightle in 1829.
Sketch plot in file.
B.Cushion (NLA) January 1997.
May 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The westernmost element of the earthworks described above (including the postulated house platform) is visible on aerial photographs (S2)-(S3), centred at TG 3288 2483. The mapping adds little to the interpretation of the site but extends the platform, scarp or quarry edge a moderate distance to the southeast. It is notable that buildings are also shown here on Faden’s Map of Norfolk (S4).
The edge of the platform or scarp has been depicted by the NMP mapping as a narrow bank.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 23 May 2007.
