Summary

Fieldwalking and metal-detecting in this area between 1981 and 2013 recovered a range of finds including an undatable furnace bottom; undatable prehistoric worked flints; an Early Mesolithic/Early Neolithic flint blade; a Neolithic laurel leaf; undated burnt flint; Iron Age to post-medieval pottery sherds; a Roman tile fragment; a medieval/post-medieval roof tile fragment; a post-medieval coin and a range of other metal objects. The metal finds include undated metal working debris and a weight; a Roman brooch; a Late Saxon unidentified object; Late Saxon to post-medieval spindle whorl; a medieval harness pendant with gilding, part of a candlestick, a key, purse frame, copper alloy vessel fragment and dress accessories including a strap end with niello cross-hatched inlay and post-medieval dress accessories, crotal bells, a thimble and a knife end-cap.

One sherd Thetford type? Ware.
One sherd either Ipswich Ware or Roman.
Finds held by NCM.

25-26 May 1987. Found in fieldwalking.
Early Iron Age sherds, West Harling style, none of it late. Identified by A. Gregory (NAU).
Worked flint (not seen).
Two medieval sherds.
Four Ipswich Ware, plus one doubtful.
One Roman sherd. Identified by A. Gregory (NAU).

Core, eight scrapers.
One flake with straight edge retouch.
Fourteen flakes or blades - all Neolithic.

1984. Metal detecting.
Iron key, medieval?, solid shaft.
Purse frame with swivel loop and short bar with ball terminals.
Harness pendant, gilt copper alloy lozenge-shaped with projecting lobes in centre of each side. Central stud with convex head and shank projecting on reverse.
Strap end hook, copper alloy with niello cross-hatched inlay. See for comparison LMMC pl. LXXVI no.9.
14th century strap end fragment with animal terminal.
