Fieldwalking in this area during 1981 recorded the presence of prehistoric pot boilers. They were scattered along the length of the boundary of the heath where it runs along the southern edge of the former airfield (NHER 5742).

Full description

2 April 1981. Following northern boundary of plantation on 'Croxton Heath'.
Heat-crazed flints (pot boilers).
Pot boilers were retrieved from rabbit holes and mole hills throughout the length of the boundary of the heath where it runs along the southern edge of the former airfield (NHER 5742).
