A cropmark of a ring ditch, probably a Bronze Age round barrow, is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S18). This ring ditch has previously been wrongly located and its grid reference has been amended from TM 3425 9325 to TM 3427 9319. The ring ditch has a slightly sub-circular plan with a 2.5m wide ditch and an external diameter of 23m. It is likely that it is of Bronze Age date and that it relates to a round barrow. Two pits are located in the southern part of the ring ditch and a further two lie to its southeast. It is possible that these are graves. A larger pit is cut across the ditch on the eastern side of the ring ditch and could be a secondary grave. An undated linear ditch cropmark with a north to south alignment passes close to the eastern side of the ring ditch. The ring ditch is situated on a small spur of ground at approximately 21m OD. It forms part of a large barrow cemetery (NHER 44844).

In the past there has been considerable confusion over the location of the ring ditch cropmarks in this area. Where the same cropmark has been seen in different years, this has led to some duplication of HER records. The record of this ring ditch appears to have been duplicated by NHER 10625 or 10626 (probably the latter) and those records are now redundant. See also NHER 11587.
J. Albone (NMP), 07 July 2006
