Summary

Metal detecting at this spot has recovered a wide variety of Iron Age to post medieval metal finds. Highlights include a La Tène I Iron Age brooch dated to 500-300 BC, five Roman brooches, an Early Saxon brooch and a medieval engraved lead weight. These finds are part of a larger Roman to Late Saxon settlement and Early Saxon cemetery complex.

Lead 'map' engraving.
This medieval lead disc with engraved 'map' on one face was re-examined in 2006 and identified as a weight (and the 'map' as a doodle).

The incomplete Romano-British 'Aucissa-type, Claudio-Neronian' brooch found in 1975 was reidentified by J. Gibbons and A. Rogerson (NLA) as an early Germanic piece.
