Location

Parish:DOWNHAM WEST, WEST NORFOLK, NORFOLK

Full description

Found 10 July 1831. Downham Fen.
Copper alloy celt (looped palstave with ribbed blade).
Given by Goddard Johnson to Woodward 7 November 1832.
See (S1).

R. R. Clarke (NCM) thought that this may have been the same celt that was found as part of a Bronze Age hoard, see NHER 4231.
But it is unlikely to be the same, as the hoard, NHER 4231, was not found until 1858 and the palstave had been in Woodward's possession for over 20 years by then.
