Name:World War Two crash site and multi-period finds

Summary

Fieldwalking has recovered prehistoric flints and pottery dating from the Roman to the post medieval periods. A Late Saxon coin dating from the reign of Edward the Confessor has been found by metal detecting. In 1940 three Meteor F8's crashed in the area around this site.

Full description

About 1940. Crash site of three aircraft. Context 1.
Triple collision of three Meteor F8's.
Information from Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum.

February to March 1983. Hales Survey site 83.
One field formerly two. Rough arable fairly well weathered. Sticky clay when wet, loam like when dry. Main area.
Context 2 (site A) scatter on slope and lower margin, some increase in density towards Context 2 (site B) north end of former western field.
Finds: flints, Roman/medieval/Post medieval sherds.
Brick and tile fragments.
Lava quern fragment.
Copper alloy coin.
