In 1977 and 1981 a number of pottery sherds from the Roman to medieval periods were recovered, as well as a prehistoric flint tool.

Full description

Pottery scatter over all of this field, but main concentrations in three groups as below.
Context 1. Medieval coarseware, some Roman, one sherd Ipswich ware? This area lies between the site of the well (NHER 9928) and the west field boundary.
Context 2. Medieval and Roman sherds, probable Early Saxon sherd, one sherd Ipswich ware? Also a flint scraper. This area runs from north of the well to north of Wattlefield Hall.
Context 3. Roman including Oxfordshire ware mortarium? and possible Early Saxon sherds. This area spreads from north of Wattlefield Hall to the south boundary of The Church Piece, and tapers out to east towards Hatchet Plantation.
