'Many years' before 1900 a medieval gold finger ring was found. It is inscribed with the legend 'Al is God wele' and features the arms of Sir Francis South of Fotherby. The exact location and nature of its discovery are uncertain.

'Many years' before 1900 in a field.
Gold ring temp. Henry V, thick, 11 dwts, inscribed inside 'Al is God wele' with arms on signet of Sir Francis South of Fotherby.
Information from (S1).

Same as ring mentioned in (S2) and (S3), where there is copy of a letter from [1] to finder.
The arms were confirmed to South in 1605 so must have been in use before. Impression in rear cover.
