This is the approximate site of the deserted medieval settlement of Thurton, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book and later became known as Middleton-in-Witchingham. A possible medieval moated site, or building, is visible as a rectangular cropmark on aerial photographs.

Full description
Approximate site of Thurton deserted medieval settlement mentioned in Domesday.
Afterwards known as Middleton-in-Witchingham.
No trace found on air photographs by Ordnance Survey inspectors in 1956.

E. Rose (NAU) 1 June 1977.
However at TG 1010 1250 NAU air photographs show a rectangular mark with rounded corners.
Is this a second moat, or a large house site?
January 2002. Site visit.
Earthworks visible, but not showing any conclusive regular pattern.
