Record Details

NHER Number:1076
Type of record:Monument
Name:Medieval pottery production site and road

Summary

Excavations here in 1960 found a number of medieval pottery sherds as well as pieces of fired clay and a spread of gravel. These finds would seem to suggest a medieval pottery kiln/works was located here and that a contemporary gravel road may have also been present. Subsequent investigations in 1980 and 1983 found more medieval pottery sherds. Metal detecting here in 2008 recovered a further 78 medieval sherds, and no significant metal finds.
