Summary
Metal-detecting between 1998 and 2024 recovered Roman and medieval coins; a post-medieval jetton and a range of other, Roman to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include a Late Iron Age/Roman unidentified copper alloy and enamel object; a Roman brooch, probable strap fitting or button and loop fastener and unidentified possible fitting; a possible Roman furniture stud; a Roman/Early Saxon military belt mount; Early Saxon brooch fragments, a gusset plate, sleeve clasp and mount; a potentially Early Saxon heavily molten unidentified copper alloy object; a medieval strap end and harness mount; a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragment and a post-medieval dress hook and harness mount.
The number of Early Saxon brooches recovered at this site plus the presence of at least one molten object of this date suggests this could well be the site of an Early Saxon cemetery.
