Full description
Lime kiln.
Last operating in county, ceased functioning 1975.
Information from [1].
December 1977. Field Observation.
Members of the Norfolk Industrial Archaeology Society visited the site.
Debris was cleared away from the pot in order to allow measurements to be taken.
The chamber is six feet six inches wide, with an arched roof. The walls are chalk up to a height of three feet nine inches and brick thereafter.
The flue holes were still chocked with lime and there was no sign of prodding holes above the flues. A how for pulling lime from the flue holes was found along with several full bags of lime.
It was noted that there was a second kiln at this limeworks, but it had been demolished about 8 years previously.
During the war, the kiln was covered at night.
Information from short journal article (S1).

Still in good order. A ton or so of lime remains stacked in bags inside, now solidified.
Information from [1].
Either this kiln or NHER 12763 is marked on the First Edition Ordnance Survey 2-inch map (S2).
