Summary
Aerial photographs of this area taken in 1972 and 1994 show the cropmarks of several ditches or former field boundaries. It was felt that some of these features were Iron Age or Roman in date. More recent aerial imagery shows a number of additional features, including a probable double-ditched trackway and part of a rectilinear enclosure.

March 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of undated and possibly multi-period ditches, probably former field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Field Road, Stalham (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 3865 2484.
The majority of the ditches are aligned either northwest-southeast or northeast-southwest and are likely to be the fragmentary remains of field boundaries of unknown date, although an Iron Age to Roman date is a possibility. The cropmarks may also represent more than one phase of fields.

August 2024. Aerial Imagery Interpretation.
A number of additional linear cropmarks are visible on recent aerial imagery (S3) that had no been identifiable on the previously examined photographs. The cropmark are though fairly poorly defined, being only sporadically visible amongst a dense area of geological cropmarks. Identifiable features include a possible doubled-ditched trackway visible between TG 3844 2486 and TG 3855 2484. North-east to south-west and north-west and south-east aligned ditches to the east are likely to form two sides of a rectilinear enclosure (converging to form a corner at TG 3862 2487). A number of discrete cropmarks within the interior of this enclosure potentially represent pits.
A much more substantial north-east to south-west aligned ditch visible between TG 3843 2489 and TG 3852 2494 most likely represents a former field boundary of medieval to post-medieval date (its alignment being similar to that of extant boundaries to the north). A north-to-south aligned ditch at TG 3855 2490 corresponds with a former field boundary depicted on the Stalham tithe map (S4).
A ring-ditch likely to represent the remains of a barrow is recorded as NHER 68476 and an adjacent group of possible concentric ring ditches as NHER 68477.
