Full description
July 2001. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of drainage trenches in churchyard of St Augustine's (NHER 575).
Several medieval Grimston pottery sherds found.
A small amount of human skeletal remains was unearthed and was retained by the building contractors for reburial.
Otherwise negative. Trenches were not excavated to a depth where they might be expected to reveal evidence of occupation prior to the construction of the church.
See report (S1) for further details.
J. Allen (NLA), 25 January 2001. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 30 March 2015.
