Summary

Metal detecting in 1993 recovered three Roman brooches. Fieldwalking as part of the Coastal Survey carried out by the NAU in 2004 recovered a single fragment of post medieval pottery and two pieces of slag.

Full description

March/April 1993. Metal detecting. Field 15. General finds in this field.
Three Roman bronze brooches.
Colchester type, upper bow with central rib and wings only. 1st century AD.
Dolphin type, bow only with highly pronounced central rib. 1st century AD.
Dolphin type, one wing missing, small central rib along length of bow. 1st century AD.

Land-based survey; Area A25:
Fieldwalking of a single tramline along northern edge of field.
One piece of post medieval pottery and two pieces of slag were recovered. The slag may indicate nearby metalworking, or they could be from a dump of ballast.
