During 1983-84 a number of Roman and Saxon pottery sherds and Roman tegulae were found during the digging of house foundations. A subsequent archaeological excavation in 1998 found several ditches and pits of unknown date and quantities of unusual Middle Saxon pottery wares. Several prehistoric worked flints and a medieval roofing tile were also found by this work. Further investigation in 1999 found more Saxon and medieval pottery as well as metalworking slag.
