Summary
Fieldwalking in 1980 recorded a scatter of Late Saxon and early medieval pottery extending over several acres but concentrated near the church (NHER 1389) to the east. Subsequent metal-detecting has recorded a small number of Roman coins, one further sherd of medieval pottery, a medieval buckle, a medieval strap fitting, and a 17th century coin. It is of note that remains of a small Roman building recordedunder NHER 67246 to the east may have actually been recovered from the northern edge of this field.

Full description
March 1980. Fieldwalking by Norfolk Archaeological and Rescue Group.
A scatter of Late Saxon thetford ware and early medieval pottery was recorded within this field along with domestic refuse and scatters of building debris. A published description (S2) of these finds describes the scatter as extending over several acres but concentrated near the church (NHER 1389).
These objects were originally recorded alongside the remains of a small Roman building (NHER 67246) described as located "at the north side of field, by the edge of salt-marsh" (S1). However there appears to have been some confusion regarding the location of these remains. Whilst it cannot be ruled out that they were observed at the the northern edge of this field, it appears more likely that they were located to the east, in the field immediately north of the church (NHER 67246). See NHER 67246 for further discussion.
Information from HER Record Card (S1) and published summary (S2).
The mapped extent of this site has been amended to reflect the extent of the scatter described above [1].
