Full description

Date and circumstances unknown.
Prehistoric perforated oval macehead in fine-grained stone. Information from (S1). These items are not closely datable. Stone maceheads have been found within Mesolithic contexts, although generally it is the cruder examples made from quartzite pebbles that are seen as potentially this early in date. A later prehistoric date is therefore perhaps more likely for this object.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 17 April 2013.
