Full description

Round barrow on Garboldisham Heath.

Perhaps Soldier's Hill, but more probably that is NHER 6112.
In more or less figure of eight shaped plantation. Very much flattened and hardly visible when covered by thick high bracken. Pine trees on mound; some have been cut down and stumps are in bracken. (?World War One period work)
One or two flakes seen on mound.
Plantation is on a slight eminence but 6in map (S1) does not show it. No ditch, or hollow in top, observed, but condition of tumulus is so bad that they would hardly show even if originally present.
Circular, height 1.2m (4ft) barely, diameter 40 paces (say 36m (120ft) but much spread).
H. D. Hewitt.

1975.
No sign in ploughed field, with young cereal on eminence.
A. J. Lawson (NAU), 1975.

September 1983.
Under grass, nothing visible.
J. Wymer (NAU), September 1983.

Bryant's map of 1826 (S2) has 'The Castle' written in this area.
E. Rose (NLA), 3 December 2002.
