Name:Prehistoric perforated quartzite macehead and multi-period pottery, south-east of Hopton House

Summary

A prehistoric perforated quartzite macehead was found in 1948. These objects are not closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts. Fieldwalking here in the late 1980s recovered sherds of Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery.

Full description

1948. Stray Find.
Found south-east of Hopton House:
1 prehistoric perforated quartzite macehead. Held by the NCM (NWHCM : 1949.49). Information from (S1).
These objects are not closely datable, quartzite examples such as this having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.

1986 to 1987. Fieldwalking.
Small amounts of Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery. Also an unidentifed copper alloy object with hole. For details see file for NHER 24669.
