Record Details

NHER Number:4707
Type of record:Monument
Name:Threxton deserted medieval village

Summary

The village of Threxton is recorded in the Domesday Book and an old document states that there were 23 taxpayers living there in 1377. By 1635 there were only four open fields and in 1805 one house. Slight earthworks of the village can still be seen. Prehistoric worked flints, part of an Early Saxon iron spearhead in two pieces, a Late Saxon 'backwards biting beast' disc brooch and a concentration of medieval and post medieval pottery have been found.
