NHER Number:4192
Type of record:Monument
Name:Late Neolithic and Bronze Age site, medieval settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

A fragment of Beaker pottery found during fieldwalking suggests that this site was occupied during the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, although the nature of that occupation is uncertain. A ring ditch, probably dating to the Bronze Age, and a ditched enclosure of unknown date are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Metal-detecting in 2010 recovered other finds from this period, including an Early Bronze Age flint dagger and a Middle Bronze Age/Late Bronze Age rapier/knife fragment. This was also the site of a settlement during the medieval period, and is recorded in documents dating from the 15th century. Fieldwalking and metal-detecting between 1979 and 2010 recovered prehistoric pot boilers, pottery dating from the Roman to the post-medieval periods, including concentrations of medieval pottery fragments, and Roman to post-medieval metal objects, including Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins, an Iron Age harness fitting, Romano-British and Anglo-Saxon brooches, a medieval ampulla and a post-medieval book fitting.
