Full description

1998. Metal-detecting.
Roman Aesica brooch, heavily iron stained. The wings are semi-cylindrical, open at the back for the missing spring: the chord would have been held by the central rear-facing hook. The wings are each decorated with a single groove: vertical on left hand wing (as you look at front) and oblique on right hand wing. Other decoration maybe obscured or broken away. The bow has three identical grooves and a chunky rectangular section; it steps down to a circular plate on which is a large inverted triangular boss with a groove across the top. Foot missing. Some similarity with (S1). 1st century AD.
See (S2).
Identified by H.M. Geake (NCM).
Found by [1].
[2] describes this as a Aesica Theer Hook around 40 to 60/65 AD.
