Summary

This Bronze Age bowl barrow is visible as a circular mound. The ditch surrounding it can be seen as a crop mark on aerial photographs. It has been suggested as the location of a windmill, but this is unlikely.

Full description

1957. Visit. Tumulus 91m (100 yards) west of Icknield Way.
Bones discovered in rabbiting. Called Hill of Peace according to [1]. Partly destroyed 1892, but still standing about 90cm (3 feet) high in 1957.

39m diameter, 50cm high, ploughed.

April 1981. Visit.
(S2) states that local people call it the soldiers burial ground. The local constable was said to have found 'Roman remains' on it. (S3) stated that a coin of Hadrian around 120 AD was found on it. A windmill once stood here. (S4) states barrow deeply ploughed, surrounding ditch visible as soilmark. Few sherds of medieval green glazed ware on surface.
