Summary

Sporadic metal-detecting between 1998 and 2016 recovered a Neolithic/Bronze Age flint blade; Middle Saxon and medieval pottery sherds; a medieval coin; post-medieval jettons and a token and undated, Roman and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include an undated brooch, weight and buckle; a Roman brooch; a medieval buckle, silver ring fragment, brooch, padlock case and pendent bell; a medieval/post-medieval buckle and thimble and a post-medieval scissors fragment.

Full description

17 February 1998. Metal detecting in restricted area in stubble. Context 2. [1].
Bowl rim, probably Grimston unglazed. Jar rim, pimply Ipswich.
Identified by A. Rogerson (NLA).

Padlock case of Winchester Type C, with pierced L shaped arm. The case, into which the spring was fitted (iron spring still visible as lump of rust inside) has a circular central swelling and is decorated on the base with engraved ornament (almost like a fleur de lis). Late medieval.

Large late medieval/early post medieval thimble with straight undecorated rim and large hand-made circular indentations in a spiral covering sides and top. Tonsured crown.
