Summary

This is a spigot mortar base. These are relatively common on the coast but are rare in Norwich. It stood in Catton Park and was part of Norwich's first line of defence. An anti-tank ditch ran through the park about 10 metres to the north of the mortar base.

Full description

Common 1940 spigot mortar gun emplacement, unusual in the Norwich area. Situated on east side of park in trees.
Originally stood on Norwich's main defence line and an anti-tank ditch ran through park about 10m to the north.
