Name:Mesolithic/Early Neolithic worked flints and multi period metal object scatter

Summary

Metal detecting between 1995 and 2005 recovered finds dating from the Mesolithic to the post medieval period. These include two Mesolithic/Early Neolithic flint flakes, an unusual triangular Late Saxon or medieval strap end or buckle, a medieval strap end with openwork decoration and a medieval key. Roman, medieval and post medieval coins and tokens have also been found. Two prehistoric worked flints, including a Mesolithic microlith, were recovered during the excavation of a pipe trench in 2008.

Full description

1995. Metal detecting find.

1997. Metal detecting finds.
Small cast casket key. Stem drilled out at end. Assymetrical bit. Straight stem with crude collar below circular bow. Late Cast bronze gilded harness mount. Bossed with central solar symbol surrounded by interlace. Flange with signs of the zodiac. Three decorated flat headed studs with remains of iron fixing at back. Probably 18th/19th century.
Cast bronze fob-seal matrix. Oval seal possibly showing a pineapple or spiked seed-head, conical back and pierced three lobed head (S4).
