Record Details

NHER Number:31934
Type of record:Monument
Name:A possible Early Saxon inhumation cemetery and multi-period finds

Summary

Metal detecting during 1996-98 recovered a variety of objects. Finds included prehistoric flint flakes, fragments of two Late Bronze Age swords and a Late Bronze Age spearhead, Roman coins and a possible gaming piece, a Middle Saxon pin, medieval and post medieval coins and jettons. The presence of Early Saxon brooches, tweezers, a pin and a buckle suggest that there may have been an inhumation cemetery on the site.
